Description
Plays are literature’s most embodied genre. They are stories written on the page to be enacted on the stage. This course will exam literary elements like plot, language, and while also examining performance elements like action, speech, and setting. The class will help you negotiate the tensions and transitions between page and stage. The course will focus on translating, role-playing, acting, directing, adapting, reviewing and historicizing plays by contemporary (1940 and up) playwrights.
