    Description

    This course is designed to introduce freshmen to college-level writing with additional support in basic reading and critical thinking skills. Students will learn to brainstorm, organize, and write fluently to produce clear prose. The first half of the course begins with a focus on paragraph development, including topic sentences, methods of development, transitional devices, and introductions and conclusions. Additional support is provided in grammar, usage, and sentence structure. The second half of the course provides instruction and practice in writing multiple essays, including the use of sources on a limited basis. The course ends with instruction and practice interpreting, planning, and writing responses to essay test questions.

    Students who complete this course with a "C-" or above will be prepared for successful completion for English Composition II. Students who earn a grade lower than "C-" must repeat the course.

    Prerequisite: Next Generation Accuplacer Writing score of
