Description

This course introduces students to education as a social institution and explores how schooling influences individuals, communities, and society. Designed as an exploratory and survey course, ED 175 provides an overview of the teaching profession while examining education's role in shaping culture, opportunity, and social change. Students explore schools as complex systems influenced by social, cultural, economic, and community factors and examine how education intersects with a wide range of career pathways. Through reflection, discussion, and applied learning experiences, students develop an informed understanding of education's impact and consider their own interests in different careers in school systems, values, and potential roles within education-related fields.
