Smoke and Tobacco-Free Campus
The University of Saint Mary will be Smoke and Tobacco-Free on February 2, 2019.
Last year, the SGA approached Sister Diane asking how they could help to make our campus smoke-free. We surveyed our staff and faculty and found that there was overwhelming support – 87 percent of respondents – in favor of a tobacco-free environment.
Going smoke- and tobacco-free will promote the health and safety of all students, faculty, staff and visitors to USM. This initiative will help make USM a more appealing environment – eliminating cigarette debris and ensuring that students, employees, and guests are not exposed to second-hand smoke, either outdoors or wafting into our buildings. What’s more, maintaining a tobacco-free environment makes it less likely that our students will pick up such habits.
Moving forward, we will provide students and employees with resources to help support them if they choose to cease smoking or tobacco use. Ultimately, we believe this will be a positive addition to the university’s campus environment.
Please view the policy and list of cessation resources available to USM students, faculty, and staff.
