Description

This course includes a case-based approach to the medical screening process to help students develop interview and evaluation skills that facilitate the process of identifying factors that affect a patient’s response to treatment that may necessitate referral to a physician for follow-up and treatment. As autonomous practitioners who refer to other medical specialists when necessary, physical therapists are responsible for identifying factors that affect a patient’s response to treatment that may necessitate referral. In addition, students will learn to use pharmacological and basic laboratory data essential to the screening process. A significant component of the course will focus on signs and symptoms, disease recognition, and on the effects of disease with regard to producing impairments, functional limitations and disabilities.
