Description

An introduction to the evolution, diversity, and ecology of land plants with a strong emphasis on flowering plants. Students will examine plant reproduction and plant growth/development and the responses of plants to the environment. Student projects will include an exploration into the historical, cultural, religious and/or medicinal uses of plants. In the laboratory portion of this course, students will review and apply lecture material as they examine plant form and function. The laboratory will also introduce students to the investigative nature of scientific research. Students will get experience in experimental design, scientific method, and analysis of data collected through experimentation. Lecture three hours per week and laboratory three hours per week.
Prerequisite: BI 200
