Regular access to a computer is an absolute necessity at USM.

USM students receive discounts from several computer manufactuers. Consult student life for more information. 

USM will provide you with the latest Microsoft Office Suite free of charge. Your laptop must be able to run the latest version of Microsoft Office.

Student email accounts will be provided by USM. Each student account will have the following format: xxxx@my.stmary.edu.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Chromebooks, iPads, and mobile phones will not meet the minimum specifications and will not work when you are required to upload documents or take exams using a locked browser. Students should also check with their program director for additional software requirements or recommendations for your class.

Beyond your studies here, you should know that regular exposure to, and use of, the latest computer technology will better prepare you for the professional world. Today’s employers expect certain baseline competency with computers and common software applications, and many jobs will be out of reach without computer experience. We intend to provide you with that experience, and to that end, USM strongly encourages that all new students have a laptop when they begin their studies.

Students are responsible for providing their own laptops, but USM will provide you access to the latest Microsoft Office Suite at no cost.
